REFLEXION
Pinakothek der Moderne, 13 February - 31 May 2026
Presented on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Die Neue Sammlung, REFLEXION – Light, Mirrors, Transparency brought together works from art, architecture, graphic design, and product design. Curated jointly by the four museums of the Pinakothek der Moderne, the exhibition explored reflection both as an optical phenomenon and as a metaphor for perception, thought, and artistic expression. Under the guiding themes of light, mirrors, and transparency, works from the 20th and 21st centuries entered into an interdisciplinary dialogue. A site-specific exhibition design by Martin Kinzlmaier further enhanced the exploration of visibility, invisibility, light, and shadow. Among the participating artists and designers were Markus Benesch, Dan Flavin, Joseph Beuys, Olafur Eliasson, David Hockney, Isa Genzken, Jeff Koons, Gerhard Richter, Ettore Sottsass, Ingo Maurer, Achille Castiglioni, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rosemarie Trockel, and Franz West.
On view are the recent acquisition of Die Neue Sammlung, the mirror SHIBAM by Ettore Sottsass, as well as the 4 m high suspended light object SKY SCRATCH by Markus Benesch.
